Helpful Hints When Looking for a Fishing Guide:
Choosing a fishing guide can be difficult without knowing what to look for.   These are merely suggestions we hope will give you some direction while giving you more confidence in knowing the fishing guide you are looking for meets your needs.  If at any time you have any questions feel free to contact us by phone or e-mail at ccfishing.net@gmail.com.

Local:
When trying to select a fishing guide try to make sure they are local to the area you are wanting to fish (or at least fish in the area regularly/ seasonally), there is no replacement to spending time on the water in the area you will be fishing.

Pricing:
Most fishing guides in the Corpus Christi area will be priced fairly similar.  Most trips will range from $500-$800 per boat depending on the number of people aboard the vessel.  Prices will start to vary if kids, bait, or fish cleaning is additional.   When a guide is found listing charters for a great deal less than others a red flag should be raised, reasons may range from poor reliability to illegal charters offered from non certified guides.  Most guides will not mind if asked to provide a guide licence when booking a trip.

Policy:
Knowing the policy when booking a trip can become important in the event of needing to reschedule a trip.  Ask and find out how many days notice will be required should a trip need to be rescheduled.  Weather is also another uncontrollable factor, find out what the captains policy is on rescheduling a trip due to bad weather (most will be very helpful if the day looks bad).

Availability:
Most captains will be available on a wide variety of schedules ranging from summer weekends, year round weekends, weekends and holidays, and year round daily.  Check your captains website or call for availability.

Fishing Style:
Charters may include, bait fishing (most popular), lure/ bait fishing, lure only fishing (this may require more attention to detail and a little practice), and fly fishing (which can be difficult but very rewarding).

Targeted Species:
Most bay fishing trips in the south Tx area will target trout, redfish, drum, or flounder depending on the time of year.  If you know what you would like to target ask the captain if that species will be available and if it will be the primary target on your fishing trip.

Personality:
A simple phone call will convey a lot about the fishing guide your are looking to book a trip with. It may also be worth finding out if your captain would like to take you out fishing or fishing with the intention to provide helpful hints along the way for more success in the future.

Equipment:
Wow! Where to start here!
Lets start with this to avoid getting to technical.
Boat/ Outboard- Should be in good working condition.
V bottom boats will offer a smoother faster ride in general while flatter tunnel boats can provide a shallower running capability to access a little more water in the Laguna Madre.  Both style of boats definitely have benefits and will allow the crew to catch fish.

Licensed:
It is important to make sure your captain is a certified fishing guide.  A certified guide will have a captain's license, fishing guide license, be first aid and CPR certified, be enrolled in a random drug testing, and provide commercial life vest aboard the boat just to name a few.  A fishing guide that is not certified is not legal and is not allowed  to charge trips for a profit. Most fishing guides with a website should be certified. Fishing should be fun, safe, and relaxing for all those aboard the boat.

Good luck, and happy fishing!
Captain Casey Barrera
